FORMICA TIMBER GROUP Engineered Oak flooring is manufactured on a solid plywood base, this makes our flooring extremely stable and long lasting. The multiply engineered flooring is made of a 4 mm wear layer laminated to a 11mm multiply giving a 15mm overall thickness or option 4mm wear layer laminated to a 16mm multiply base giving a 20mm overall thickness boards are tongue and grooved and end matched widths are 190mm and 260mm mounted under high pressure to produce premium quality flooring. The products are pre-finished under ideal conditions that meet or exceed industry standards.
Oak wood has a density of about 0.75 g/cm3, great strength and hardness, and is very resistant to insect and fungal attack because of its high tannin content. It also has very appealing grain markings, particularly when quarter sawn. Oak is extremely durable which means that it does not have to be replaced as frequently as other types of flooring which in turn makes it more cost efficient in long term than the cheapest types of flooring. Also oak is an excellent insulator which means that it will help you reduce energy consumption.
Plywood construction uses multiple thin plies of wood compressed together. The wood grain of each ply runs perpendicular to each other. Stability is attained from using thin layers of wood that have little to no reaction to climatic change. The wood is further stabilized due to equal pressure being exerted lengthwise and widthwise from the plies running perpendicular to each other
The cross laminated construction of plywood ensures that plywood sheets remain relatively stable under changes of temperature and moisture. This is especially important in flooring where moisture exposure is very likely.
